Breaking It Down, One Idol At A Time

yes, yes...i know i haven't posted since the auditions. simply because i didn't know what too say. i had my early favorites, who still are my fav's, and it didn't seem like much was happening plus i wanted to sit back and soak it all in before spouting off. but now...i have A LOT to say and it's very opinionated! but unlike pretty much every website out there I'M GOING TO NAME, NAMES! oh yes! I'll cover the good ones and mention the "eh" talents but before we hit those....let's start with the bad, shall we?

Haley - i'm so sick and tired of hearing that growl! argh :-/ she's not even singing anymore! don't get me wrong, i love to hear a growl in a song...when it's done right and filled with emotion. but Haley does it on every...single....song and at least 5 times that minute and a half they have to sing. it's very annoying!

next is paul mcdonald. his singing voice reminds me of rod stewart, just not as good. but he's just so awkward and uncomfortable on stage. you can't tell me honestly that he could be the next big star...in fact, after idol-you'll probably never hear from him again. i have no clue what the judges see in him! one of life's greatest mysteries i guess.

another candidate that needs to go home is Naima she's just not that good, plain and simple. not to mention she's hard on the eyes and i don't find her entertaining but more annoying than anything.  i didn't like her in the beginning and i still don't like her.

those are the 3 that i simply can't wait to send home due to lack of talent and/or just plain annoying!

who are my "middle of the road" contestants? Casey, Jacob, Stefano and Thia. These singers can go eithier way. They could improve and shock us all by ending up in the finals or they could progressively get worse until voted off. They all have nice voices (some better than others) and they all have a certain something to them that says they could be a star. but whether it be nerves, fatigue or confidence, for some reason they're just not showing it right now. so like i said, if they come out of their box-they could be a contender but if they continue to shy away and play it safe, then they're time will fizzle and ultimately be forgotten. it's harsh but true. don't believe me? test yourself...have you heard any albums or news about an idol contestant voted off mid season? other than chris daughtry (who in my opinion should have made it much, much further than he did!)

now, for my top picks! (in no particular order)
James Durbin-he's a straight up rocker and the real deal! I don't think that he'll win AI. bo bice was the closest rocker to be declared winner but AI has certain rules about what the winner can and cannot due for a certain amount of time after the show and James won't fit into that role. and he shouldn't! he can a very long and successful career but just not under lock and key of AI rules. it's a great platform for him to start and introduce himself-otherwise we may have never had the pleasure of hearing him. but, beneficial to james, he won't take it all. however, i for one, will be buying his albums and concert tickets! keep rockin james!

Lauren Alaina-She'll end up in the top 3 for sure! possibly even be declared winner! she's cute, has an amazing voice and awesome stage presence. Kind of like she was born to this! She's the perfect, pop idol, mold and exactly what AI is looking for to represent them! I know she had a bad show a few weeks ago, but everyone is entitled to have "an off day". we've all had them. but as a whole, she's been consistent and I look forward to seeing her perform every week! again, regardless of the outcome I think she defiantly has potential for a solid career! and i said before and i'll say it again, she reminds me of a fresh faced kelly clarkson and i think she'll be just as successful!

Pia Toscano-This woman has a natural, god-given talent! she is our generation's Whitney, Mariah, Celine type of artist...but without the "diva" attitude which makes her "perfect". she's gorgeous & insanely talented. but, just as jennifer said, she does need to show another side of her to be that "universal" star. she can sing the fuck outta any ballad you put in front of her and no matter what she's wearing or how her hair is done, she's always beautiful (or hot-depending on the outfit) but if she can rock an upbeat song and play to the audience and camera...then she's gonna be the one beat this season. now, in my house she's the idol of choice (psst: my husband calls her his "hall-pass" lol)

and finally...Mr Scotty McCreery. OMG where did he come from? The country world hasn't heard a voice like that since good ole Hank! again, scotty is not gonna take home the AI title because he's not a fit for the AI mold. however, he will-without a shadow of a doubt-become a country legend! scotty, you were given such a unique gift that country stars spend years trying to imitate but you have it naturally! once your stint on AI is over, do the world a favor...seek out an amazing producer and manager and cut a record!

All in all, i think there are some huge talents this year! and unlike previous years, i think were going to see a lot of break out stars!

Early Predictions

just for the record, i'm keeping a running tab on those who I believe will at least make into the top 10. I'm usually pretty good with this each year but we'll see if i've still got it lol once the auditions are over i'll post my list. keep in mind, this is based solely on who the tv gods have allowed us to see. although most of the previous winners have had thier auditions televised there were two that were the exception. The first is Kris Allen. They showed a brief clip of his audition but not the whole thing. and Kelly Clarkson, she never made to air until she was in the final two-that's when they dug into the archieves and began to run her audition as well. But, I do have to say, after watching last nights show-and I know my opinion is matched all over America-I believe we just watched Season 10's American Idol Winner...her name is Lauren Alaina!
Randy said: “You’ve definitely got a gift. … You’ve got real, natural, God-given talent,”
Steven said: “She is beyondo cute.”Jennifer said: “It doesn’t matter what age, where, what, what, what. If you got it, you got it, and you definitely got it,”

At the end of the night, as the show wrapped up, Steven gets into his car with one final remark  "I think we found The One today, “We found her. Oh, yeah, we did."

Although he didn't say the name of the contestant, it's pretty safe to say that he was referring to Lauren and I couldn't agree more! Unless she does something to severly hinder her chances or someone comes outta one of the final stops in the audition process, I would put my money on Lauren, a 15 yr old Georgia girl who reminds me of a young Carrie Underwood, to take the title this year!
see for yourself...

Idol judges graced the cover of Entertainment Weekly

For the most part, I love it! Randy looks great! Jenny, well she's just what you would expect -in a good way :-) My issues lye w/ Steven and Ryan. I think Steven's retouches made him look like a wax model. Look, he's getting older, we can all see that. But he doesn't look bad, who thought it was a good idea to make his face baby bottom smooth and it lighten it to the point where it looks like he's been avoiding the sun at all costs. I've seen so many pics of Steven that look a lot better, and this doesn't do him justice. Now, onto Ryan, the facial experession isn't working for me. it looks like he's tryin to hard. Ryan, your a good looking guy. don't try so hard hun, we allready love ya!

First thoughts on new judges

ok, so i haven't posted anything since the start of the show last week. the main reason for this was, i was still trying to wrap my head around the new judges and honestly, i didn't know what to think at first.

JLO came out just as i thought she would, very sweet and lil wet around the ears as far as "judging" someone elses talent. but since that very first show, i'de say she's getting a lot more comfortable with the position and in fact, i think she's doin great! her facial expressions during those not so good auditions are pretty funny to watch.

Steven, oh Steven! before i get into him lemme start with-i'm a huge aerosmith fan! loved them forever! seen them in concert a few times-just amazing! ok, so with that bein said, at first i thought Steven was annoying on the show lol no really, he kept singing over the contestants and making random noises. then, i thought "he's a dirty ole man" lol he was forever "checking out" the young girls. Ew! nasty, nasty! but then he also had some funny moments that had me bustin up w/ laughter! so i was very much on the fence about Steven. Last night, however, I've made up my mind-I love him! i think he's exactly what the judging panel needed! he funny, truthful, careful of hurting someone, just all around fun loving!

Randy, he's still just randy, but he seems to have taken a few pointers from Simon. for example on last nights show he told a contestant "you weren't serious. that was terrible!" and "what kind of joke is this" Normally that line would have been reserved for Simon lol But even though he has become a lil more stern (or maybe fed up) w/ the contestants-i still see that "dawg" in him and can't help but bust out laughing when i see him laugh at someone :-p

All in all, I think this revamp of American Idol is exactly what this show needed. Last season was so sleepy and almost predictable. i don't think they would have lasted more than 1 maybe 2 more seasons like that before everyone lost interest. but steven and jennifer who i strongly believe breathed life into this sinking ship and the new producer (forgot his name) all around was an awesome choice and i'm looking forward to the coming weeks!

Who want's spoilers? I've got 3 of them!

Spoiler #1
ok so apparently there are 242 contestants heading out to Hollywood this season but us viewers will only have a chance to "get to know" about 40-50 of them because they will become "feature players" in the Hollywood episodes. This is Fox's way of getting the viewers to connect w/ thier favorite early on.

Spoiler #2
it's kinda hard to believe that it's taken this long, but A.I. is introducing online voting this year through AT&T. I've checked out the link and it says it's inactive right now but by the time we hit the Hollywood round, it will be up and running. When that time comes, i'll post a link here.

Spoiler #3 - This year the top 12 contestants w/ the highest votes will move on and they've added an additional 3 contestants as wildcards. For those of you not good at math that will be 15 on stage this year. :-p

Time Slot Change

Just an FYI-Season 10 Time Slot Change
A.I. will be on Wednesday & Thursday nights
instead of Tues & Wed like last year.

Tyler & Lopez Recieve Positive Reviews!

Over the Holiday's, Fox released a 23 minute preview of the new American Idol.

Apparently, Tyler is the shining personality on this years revamped judges panel! He was making faces, singing along and even druming a beat on the desk. He's given the judges table a personality and making it fun to watch again. Which is good, given last year was a snooze-fest!

Jennifer is much like Paula where as she is sweet and charming and has that adorable laugh. The plus side, she doesn't clap like a seal! lol

Randy has taken on more of a business appeal this year. but don't worry, we'll all get our "dawg" and "pitchy" fixes for the year ;-)

It seems the change back to a 3 judge panel is working out great and the connection with everyone is genuine and fun while respecting each other at the same time. I think were all in for a pleasant surprise.
